Warm and windy before cold and snow

Strong winds move in before a strong cold front

Enjoy the nice weather while you can!

Wind, cold, and snow are in the forecast.

We'll deal with the wind first.

High Wind Warnings are in effect for much of North Central Montana Friday, with peak gusts between 40 and 60 miles per hour expected, and even stronger gusts possible along the Rocky Mountain Front.

The strong winds will help keep us warm at least.

High temperatures Friday will range from the upper 60s to lower 70s.

The warm air won't last long.

A cold front will slide through the state Friday evening.

That front will bring some rain on the leading edge Friday night, but rain will quickly transition to snow.

Off and on snow showers will then linger in Saturday.

For most, snow accumulation will be minor, anywhere from a trace to a couple of inches.

Heavier snow up to a foot is expected in the mountains, where Winter Storm Watches are in effect.

We'll have a more detailed snow forecast at 5:30 and 10.

The cold front will of course bring us cold temperatures too.

Most of us will see our high temperatures at midnight on Saturday, with temperatures around the freezing mark expected into the afternoon.
