MISSOULA – Missoula emergency officials responded to reports of a river rescue near the California Street Footbridge on Monday night.
Missoula City Fire Battalion Chief David Wolter said one man was pulled out of the Clark Fork River and taken to the hospital at around 8:30 p.m.
Initial reports indicated there might have been a second person in the river.
However, a Life Flight helicopter was unable to locate a second person with an infrared flyover and the search was terminated.
Law enforcement officials said the possible second victim could have left the water on their own without notifying authorities.
