James Edward Schreck has been charged with burglary and theft in Great Falls.
A police officer responded on Monday, January 27, to a report of a burglary at a residence on the 800 block of 5th Avenue South.
The female resident of the apartment told the officer that as she approached the apartment, she saw and heard the front door open and then shut. She gave the officer permission to enter the apartment, but the officer was not able to open the door, as the deadbolt had been secured.
The officer then saw a man - later identified as Schreck - trying to leave the apartment through the side/back door. The apartment resident told the officer that she did not know Schreck and he did not have permission to be in her apartment. When asked about a missing mattress, Schreck told police that the woman's boyfriend had someone pick it up.
Schreck then told the officer that the woman's boyfriend had allowed him to stay at the apartment.
Officers talked with the woman's boyfriend, who said that he had not given Schreck permission to be in the apartment, and had not arranged for anyone to take the mattress set.
Court documents state that Schreck has a felony conviction for criminal endangerment, and misdemeanor convictions for unlawful transaction with a child, obstructing a peace officer, and theft. In addition, Schreck has at least one probation violation and one bail/bond revocation.
Schreck has been charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft.
