There were 1,660 new cases and 37 new deaths added to the total on the Montana COVID-19 tracking site on Saturday morning; the data below is from the official Montana website on November 14:
- HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are 435 current hospitalizations, and a cumulative total of 2,042 hospitalizations.
- DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana is 514.
- ACTIVE CASES: There are 17,900 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.
- CASES & RECOVERIES: There have been 45,886 cumulative cases, with 27,472 people listed as recovered.
- TESTING: There were 3,150 completed tests, for a cumulative state-wide total of 569,694.

Among the most recent deaths are individuals in Chouteau County, Cascade County, Glacier County, Hill County, Blaine County, and Roosevelt County.
Numbers reported by the state each day occasionally differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. We encourage people to check the official website and/or Facebook page of their respective county health department for any information that is not yet included in the state's daily updates. Based on state and county data, MTN News is reporting the following:
- Total Cases: 46,051 (+165 from state)
- Active Cases: 15,659 (-2,241 from state)
- Deaths: 528 (+14 from state)
- Recoveries: 29,864 (+2,392 from state)
The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) said in an email on Saturday that earlier this week, it began the process of upgrading its statewide communicable disease reporting system that is used by county and Tribal health officials to report COVID-19 cases. This upgrade has created a single, centralized data source that will be shared between the local jurisdictions and DPHHS from this point forward. This will better streamline the overall data sharing process and help synchronize data being reported at the local level to updates made at the state level.
For example, the transition to the centralized database will help with more up-to-date and consistent hospitalization updates. In order to accomplish this, a large update was made to today’s hospitalization numbers in order to catch up the numbers from local jurisdictions to the state data. Today, the total hospitalizations are increasing by 500, and active hospitalization decreased by 59. In addition, the transition to MIDIS has allowed for further noteworthy reconciliation of the statewide numbers that are updated on a daily basis.
The City-County Health Department in Great Falls said in a news release on Saturday evening:
Today, the State map reported an additional 440 cases in Cascade County. This week, we have been issuing information about the low numbers of cases reported via our Facebook page. Cascade County reported the following cases each day for the week of November 9th – 13th :
• Monday, November 9th – 0 cases
• Tuesday, November 10th – 84 cases
• Wednesday, November 11th – 7 cases
• Thursday, November 12th – 1 case
• Friday, November 13th – 119 cases
This put our total at 211 cases for the week. The additional 440 cases reported today brings that total to 651 cases.
The numbers reported on the state map earlier this week were significantly lower than average as a result of an essential upgrade to the statewide communicable disease reporting system, staffing shortages at CCHD, and an onsite consultation from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to review and streamline or processes.
This last week, CCHD has hired and trained additional contact tracers, continued 7 day a week case investigation and contact tracing and are now able to focus on entering the numbers into the state database which will be reflected on today’s map.

CONTEXT: Not every person who tests positive actually becomes ill or exhibits symptoms. Many do not; of those who do become sick, some experience mild symptoms and do not require hospitalization. Others, however, do require hospitalization, as noted in the daily update on the number of people hospitalized. However, every person who tests positive for COVID-19 has the potential to spread the virus to other people, including family members and friends, which is why public health officials continue to encourage everyone to wear a mask and maintain at least the recommended six feet of "social distance" when in public. The federal Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) released data in late August which emphasizes that people with contributing or chronic medical conditions are at much greater risk of dying from COVID-19.
