The University of Montana hosted a Climate Action Roundtable on Tuesday to kick off a series of events in conjunction with the Global Climate Strike.

The UM Climate Change Studies Program and Sustainability Office hope the events will promote informed discussion and reflection about climate action.

Other gatherings include a Communicating About Climate Panel Discussion, and a teach-in on global climate justice with UM faculty members. Student groups around Missoula are also organizing a walkout as part of the Global Climate Strike on Friday.

"The debates and discussions around climate change have really moved away from the science to some extent and have become more focused on what are the possibilities for action,” UM Climate Change Studies Program Director Steven Schwarze said.

“And I think a lot of the students -- what we’re hearing is, that they see the urgency of this issue and want to think about the pros and cons of different kinds of actions depending upon what their interests are, what their values are, and what their comfort levels are,” he added.
