More than 3,000 students moved in on campus at Montana State University on Wednesday.

The class of 2023 has moved into the dorms and are eager for the school year.

“I’m looking forward to the football games, but yeah I’m just looking forward to everything, meeting new people, going to football games, going to classes,” MSU freshman Thomas Meyertholen said.

It’s an exciting and somewhat overwhelming time for new students, a time that MSU President Cruzado remembers well.

“On my first day of classes, I still remember showing up for classes at 8:30 in the morning, I was so overwhelmed with emotion and nerves, that I had to go buy a bottle of Pepto Bismol,” she said.

She added that welcoming new and returning students is one of the best days of the year and she’s thrilled they have chosen Montana State.

“I looked at a lot of different schools, actually in a lot of warmer climates, but I just decided I wanted to get some snowboarding in over my four years in college and I like being in the mountains,” Meyertholen said.

It’s no secret that the university continues to grow over the years and as more and more students come to Montana State University, more people from the community are also coming out to help them move in.

“In the past, we used to have 125 volunteers; today that number is almost 500 people,” Cruzado said.

And the quiet campus has yet again come alive for another school year.

“It feels so good to have our students back on campus, right? The energy is back and quite honestly, this is why we do what we do,” added Cruzado.

Convocation is Thursday evening and the annual Cat Walk on Main Street is Friday at 11 am.
