HELENA -- MTN first met Secy Severa in the days leading up to Thanksgiving in 2019, for every customer that came in with items to donate to help a family in need, they’d get that dollar amount deducted from their bill.

Now, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the kindness isn’t going away as Severa gives haircuts to those who need it free of charge.

“I think if there's any time,it would be now to help people. With all this stuff going on, there's people who are who need right now," said Severa. "If it's money, if it's a boost of confidence, and I'm not losing money doing this, I'm just I'm losing time and that's okay. I have nothing but time on my hands.”

Severa opened Black Eye LeGrand in mid-2019 and said the reason she became a barber, and provides services like this, stems from a friend she lost years ago.

“I named this barber shop 'Black Eye LeGrand' after a really good friend of mine who passed away a couple years ago, he's the reason I became a barber. His memory is, he was always positive, he was always helping people. He was always, even if it was, you know, making someone smile," said Severa. "I want to be remembered like that, I want his legacy to live on. So, that's my goal from now, forever.”

Looking forward to the future, Severa said she hopes by doing these good deeds, she’ll also inspire others to pay it forward.

"This is definitely not the last thing I'll be doing. I want to do something every month, every year," said Severa. "It's for him. It's for people to realize that it's pretty easy to make a difference. It's simple. If it's small or big."
