Report: Schumer makes Montana visit to woo Bullock for U.S. Senate

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met with Gov. Steve Bullock in Montana over the past weekend, presumably in a last-ditch effort to convince the governor to enter Montana's U.S. Senate race, according to Politico .

The Washington, D.C.-based online newspaper cited "multiple sources familiar with the meeting" that the New York Democrat was making another pitch to convince Bullock to challenge Republican Steve Daines before the filing period expires March 9.

Bullock has resisted multiple calls from Democrats, including former President Barack Obama , to enter the race, saying he has no interest. He is prevented from running for governor by term limits, and he ended his presidential run in December.

Bullock is viewed as a high-profile Democrat who could put Daines' seat into play by national party leaders, according to Politico.

Four Democrats have announced challenges to Daines: Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins, Bozeman public-health expert Cora Neumann, rancher John Mues of Loma and Bozeman physicist Michael Knoles.

Bullock representatives did not respond to Politico's requests for comment. MTN News has reached out to Bullock's camp and is awaiting a response.
