(GREAT FALLS) Native American fashion designer Belinda Bullshoe will be returning to New York Fashion Week.
“That’s where my name was introduced to the fashion world was in New York. To be going back to the same runway where it all began, it’s beyond me, it’s a blessing,” Bullshoe said.
Her first appearance was in 2017. Since then, she’s created 78 pieces and has been featured in 39 runway shows.
“It’s every person’s dream. I always tell people go after your dreams, if you set your mind to it, do it,” Bullshoe said.
It’s something Belinda says she never would have imagined years ago.
“I’m representing the Blackfeet Tribe and especially Montana. I was going over there and I wanted to make the state of Montana, Blackfeet Tribe proud. What I’m doing over there, I’m not representing myself, and I’m representing you guys. It was a lot of pressure. I wanted to not disappoint people.” Bullshoe said.
Belinda says she’s been through many trials and tribulations, but that’s what pushes her to pursue this dream even more.
“If you believe in yourself and have a lot of patience and overcome your fears, your own doubts, you can accomplish a lot. The only limitations you’re going to have is what you give yourself, and if you gave yourself beyond boundaries you can accomplish a lot,” Bullshoe said.
Belinda has traveled across the country showing off her pieces. She’s even been featured in Paris Fashion Week. This fall, along with New York Fashion Week (NYFW), Belinda says she plans to attend fashion week in either Milan or London.
“I can’t believe, it’s every persons dream. I always tell people go after your dreams, if you set your mind to it, do it. If I can achieve my dreams, you can achieve yours,” Bullshoe said.
As the fashion world continues to evolve, Belinda says her creations do, too.
“With me, I always say it’s my art through my creations. Each design, I want to keep some type of modesty. I’m trying to respect the fashion world but I’m still trying to keep my belief,” Bullshoe said.
One thing Bullshoe will never do: forget where she came from.
“To represent the state of Montana, the Blackfeet Blood Tribe and to come back knowing that I just accomplished another major runway, I’m going back to where it all began. It’s quite emotional for me,” Bullshoe said.
Belinda leaves for NYFW in September.
“I just want to thank everybody for the support they have given me,” Bullshoe said.
