Man dies in Bridger Mountain Range avalanche

BOZEMAN – The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office reported that a skier was killed after being caught in an avalanche in the Bridger Mountain Range.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, around 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Bridger Ski Patrol, Gallatin N.F. Avalanche Center and Central Helicopters responded to an avalanche on the west side of the Bridgers.

Two skiers in the area observed the skier who was caught in the avalanche and were able to locate him quickly. They attempted to resuscitate him, but the man died at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said in a media release that the victim is a 36-year-old Bozeman man. His identity will be withheld until next of kin can be notified.
