BUTTE – Authorities said seat belts saved a family of three who survived a dramatic crash on Homestake Pass over the weekend.

The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department stated a couple and their daughter were traveling west on Interstate 90 near mile marker 232 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which sent them into a ravine.

Two of the passengers had to be lifted out of the wreckage, while the third was able to walk back up to the road. The family has not been identified, but all were taken to the hospital and are reportedly in good condition.

Officials said the fact that everyone was wearing seat belts prevented it from being much worse.
