Threat to White Sulphur Springs school originated in Helena

Classes were canceled in the White Sulphur Springs School District on Monday due to a threat made on social media.

The nature of the threat has not been released.

Just before 2 a.m. on Monday, the Meagher County Sheriff’s Office posted the following message on Facebook:

Due to a social media threat detected on October 21, White Sulphur Springs School will be canceling all classes on Monday, October 22nd to allow for a complete investigation. This is a precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Just before 2 p.m. on Monday, White Sulphur Springs School District posted on Facebook that the threat has been determined to be “no longer viable.”

According to school officials, the person responsible for the posts on social media has been identified and law enforcement is handling the situation.

The threat originated from Helena and law enforcement officers in Helena are working with the person responsible.
