An early Monday morning fire in Missoula sent one person to the hospital.

The Missoula City Fire Department was called out shortly before 5:30 a.m. to a four-plex on Turner Street.

Missoula City Fire Battalion Chief Kip Knapstad reports dispatchers received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a smoke alarm going off.

Multiple fire units that were already responding to a different fire call, which turned out to be unfounded, were diverted to Turner Street.

Knapstad says fire personnel arrived quickly and were directed by city police to an upstairs apartment.

Several doors were locked, and the fire crews forced entry to search for victims and locate the fire.

Knapstad says a small fire was found in a bedroom and the fire captain communicated that crews had found a victim.

The person, whose condition isn’t known at this time, was taken to St. Patrick Hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
