Missing hunter report leads to successful rescue of man, woman in Gallatin County

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) team located and assisted two missing hunters Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release, Gallatin County Dispatch received a call around 3:45 p.m. Saturday; a woman on Logan Trident Road said the man she was meeting up with to hunt was overdue for his pickup time.

Team members then told her to stay where she was but lost contact after she went on foot to look for the missing man.

The search was in the area of Headwaters State Park and the Trident cement plant, along the train tracks.

SAR followed tracks in the snow and used dogs to track the scent of both the missing woman and hunter.

Rescuers quickly located the woman and brought her back to her truck.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office says there were 20 people searching for the pair on the ground, with a helicopter overhead.

The man was located just before 7 p.m. after being spotted by Montana Rail Link train engineer near the tracks at thte bottom of the Clarkston Hill.

According to the press release, the man was found in good spirits as rescuers gave him a ride back to his residence.
