A high-speed chase that started in West Yellowstone ended with the arrest of a 21-year-old man in Idaho on Thursday evening.

According to a press release from West Yellowstone Chief of Police Scott Newell, Brandon Jesse Postgate was taken into custody at 5:23 pm Thursday and is being held on fleeing and eluding charges from Montana and Idaho at the Fremont County Jail in Idaho.

Earlier that afternoon, the West Yellowstone Police Dispatch received a 911 call of a vehicle driving southbound on US Highway 191 from Big Sky in a dangerous manner, with a witness stating that the vehicle, allegedly driven by Postgate, had run a red traffic signal light in a construction zone on US 191 inside Yellowstone National Park. The caller also stated that the vehicle ran into the back of a camper and continued southbound.

When located by police in the town of West Yellowstone and signaled by lights and siren to stop, Postgate reportedly accelerated from the officer at a high rate of speed in a light blue 1992 Buick Regency, displaying Montana license plates.

The driver attempted to elude the officer by driving at a high rate of speed and disregarding traffic control devices, then fled south on US Highway 20, crossing into Idaho where a Fremont County deputy sheriff met the Yellowstone Police Officer.

Idaho State Police deployed a spike strip near Ashton Hill and Postgate was taken into custody.
