The Lewis and Clark County Commission held interviews Tuesday with four candidates seeking to become the county’s next treasurer-clerk and recorder.

Commissioners narrowed the list to four finalists, out of about 12 who applied for the position.

The candidates who appeared Tuesday were:

· Lori Hamm, a notary program specialist with the Montana Secretary of State’s office
· Nan Lefebvre, who is retired after holding positions with New West Health Services and several state agencies
· Melinda Reed, the former executive director of the Friendship Center and current interim Helena city manager
· Amy Reeves, who currently works in the accounting department of the treasurer-clerk and recorder’s office

The commission is set to consider appointing one of them at their meeting Thursday morning.

The newly appointed treasurer-clerk and recorder will replace Paulette DeHart, who is retiring Sept. 25. They will serve the remainder of DeHart’s term, through the end of 2022.

The treasurer-clerk and recorder’s office oversees a wide variety of county functions. It includes five departments, administering elections, motor vehicle titling, property tax collection, official documents and county financial reporting.

Commissioners thanked the applicants and said all had strong qualifications.

“We’ve got four really dynamite candidates here,” said Commissioner Susan Good Geise.
