The Lewis and Clark Humane Society is offering a special adoption promotion to try to get as many pets as possible into new homes for the holidays.

Until December 31, 2018, all adoption fees are waived when adopting a cat or dog if a monetary donation is made to the shelter.

People can donate what they can afford or as much as they want to help offset some of the shelters costs.

It costs the shelter $25 to microchip an animal and $50 for vaccinations and de-worming.

Depending on the age and breed of an animal, it can cost anywhere from $100-$500 to spay or neuter a pet.

Dog Program Coordinator Rebecca Howard said in an ideal world, they would be able to get every animal into a loving home this year.

“If we had everyone home for the holidays, I mean what’s a better feeling than that to wake up on Christmas morning and not have to come in and take care of anybody because they’re all in their homes,” said Howard.

Staff would also like to remind the public that the same adoption application process will be done for all animals.

It can be easy to mistake a pet for a present when the animal should really be considered an addition to the household.
