Representatives of Montana State Fund were at Helena and Capitol High Schools Tuesday to help encourage students to stay safe at school and future worksites.
State Fund provided 25 high school classes around the state this year with personal protective equipment through their “Growing a Safer Montana” initiative.
Each school received up to $750 worth of equipment which included fire-resistant suits, safety goggles and other safety tools.
Representatives also spoke to the students about their rights as should they choose a career as a construction or trades worker, and how to ensure a safe working environment.
“We’re really just trying to positively influence that next generation to limit the amount of injuries we’re seeing in Montana,” said Dan Johnson, Safety Management consultant with Montana State Fund. “We’re one of the highest injury and illness rates in the U.S. so we’re trying to combat that at the Montana State Fund through this program.”
Johnson added reducing accidents in the workplace will also ultimately save lives.
Montana State Fund are also offering a scholarship this year to trades students across Montana.
