According to the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), progress is continuing on schedule for the Lyndale/Montana Avenues Sidewalk Project.
“The Lyndale-Montana Sidewalk project started in April, we’re expected to finish sometime in September,” said Camaree Uljua, Engineering Project Manager. “Things are moving along mostly according to schedule, and right now the crews are working down the west side of Montana Ave. and we’re expecting that phase to take approximately a month.”
The goal of the project is to replace heavily worn sections of sidewalk, ensuring the sidewalk ramps and approaches in the area follow ADA guidelines.
Another part of the project is updating traffic lights in the area.
On Tuesday, June 23 from around 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., access to Billings Ave. off Montana Ave. will be closed while the new signal is activated and the old signal is removed.
Traffic will continue on Montana Ave., although some of the driving lanes and turning lanes may be temporarily closed at times.
On Monday, MDT also began construction on a new signal light at the intersection of Last Chance Gulch and 14th Ave.
The intersection is a significant traffic corridor for the Great Northern Town Center, and the change will bring a turn arrow and dedicated turn lane.
“This should really improve the safety for those turning on and off of Last Chance on to 14th,” said Uljua.
The newly improved intersection will also include striped pedestrian crossings and ADA compliant ramps
The section of 14th Ave. between Last Chance Gulch and Front Street will be closed the week of June 22 to allow crews to work on the light’s installation.
The Last Chance Gulch-14th Ave work is scheduled to last three weeks.
