On Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11:00 a.m. the entire family can take a special journey back in time, thanks to the Montana Historical Society.

The Montana Historical Society will be hosting "Before Montana: Stones, Bones, and Stories of the Ice Age" with featured prehistoric creatures from the Ice Age, like the Woolly Mammoth, dating back 13,000 years ago.

Friends and family are encouraged to partake in Montana’s History before it became known as “Big Sky Montana,”

The Museum was recently renovated, and the event will also dive deep into the American Indian culture, of the few people who walked alongside the Mammoths.

Brue Whittenberg, Director of Montana Historical Society, told MTN, “This is an important aspect of the history of this land that we need to recognize, we need to celebrate. And as you'll see when you visit the gallery, there are so many wonderful artifacts that kind of bring it to life and help people recognize that 13,000 years ago, there were people in Montana.”

Whittenberg wants to emphasize the importance on Montana’s history, before the 1800s and how the wildlife and peoples in that time, were important for our present history.

The “Mammoth Party” will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last until 1:00 p.m. and admission into the museum is free for all.
