Helena College celebrated and hosted their first annual welding rodeo on Saturday.

Selected students from high schools in the Helena Valley came together to create unique sculptures for the welding competition at Helena College.

Discovery Channel’s Dave Turin even made a special guest appearance for students.

Through October 8th, the school is marking STEAM events - science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

Helena College made efforts to celebrate all things STEAM by hosting the welding rodeo.

One of the students hand-picked for the welding rodeo was Colin Nielson, a Helena High School senior.

He said, “Welding’s a good trade, and I would recommend more people get into it because there's a bigger and bigger demand for it and it pays well. If you can draw circles on a piece of paper...you can probably weld.”

Nielson was just four from Helena High School chosen to attend. He won a state title for his welding expertise for Skills USA and hopes to one day earn a living as a welder.
