If you like hockey, you can get behind the puck without spending a buck this weekend in Great Falls. 'Try Hockey For Free Day' is a national movement that aims to get youth out of the stands and onto the ice.

The goal is to attract athletes to the sport at a young age so they're better prepared when they want to try out for local programs. “The earlier you can get your kids on the ice, the better off they will be as they move along into the different age divisions,” said Nate Weisenbuger, Great Falls Amateur Hockey Association president.

The Great Falls Amateur Hockey Association is hosting an hour on Saturday, November 9th, from noon to 1:00 p.m. where kids ages four to nine years old can lace up to learn from some of the best.

"We'll have players from the Americans, the Argos and our high school team available,” said Weisenburger. “So they'll be out on the along with the coaches.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear warm clothing and get there an hour early. All equipment is provided, but athletes may also bring their own to the rink. There are around 15 open spots for the event. Click here to learn more and register .
