Express Employment Professionals hosted a spring hiring event on Monday to scout for a variety of job candidates.

The employment agency works to find candidates for employers and employment for candidates. Melissa Smylie of Express Employment Professionals explained how the process works.

“The clients come to us and ask us to find the perfect associate to fill their jobs. So we do the applications. We do the skills assessments. And then we make sure that we’re sending our clients the people that are qualified for that job,”

According to the employment agency, spring is a busy hiring season in the construction and administrative fields, as many of the jobs that had to be put off during winter can now be completed: “With weather like this, the construction industry, the administrative industry is fixing to explode."

Smylie said this year's favorable weather conditions mean hires can start on jobs sooner than in past years.

“Last year at this time we were under three feet of snow, and it was really hard to get people moving on job sites and so forth. As soon as the weather's nice, all of these contracts that people have been sitting on over the winter are fixing to start hiring their crews,” Smylie said.

That means there are plenty of opportunities for entry-level general laborers, skilled laborers, and administrative workers.

“They’ve got to have those people to make those phone calls and to do their payroll and to do their books and make sure that they’re getting the office services done. You cannot run a construction company without having a qualified office staff to keep everything together,” Smylie said.

Smiley said housekeeping and hospitality are also in-demand industries.

“People are starting to travel more, tournaments are coming, then there’s gonna be other sports events, the rodeo, the fair. So we usually do a lot of staffing for housekeeping and hospitality positions at this time, through the summer as well,” Smylie said.

Smylie said if job-seekers are still interested in applying for a job but missed Monday's hiring event, they can still apply right here .
