HELENA — Helena Public Schools says that the Montana Department of Environmental Quality's water testing has confirmed PFAS in the Rossiter Elementary School well site.

This follows detection of forever chemicals in a faucet at Rossiter and Jim Darcy Elementary schools earlier this month, which prompted further testing.
The district says to ensure long-term drinking water protection, it has installed specialized water filtration systems designed to eliminate PFAS contaminants in water bottle filling stations and water fountains.
The district reassured staff, families, and community members that the drinking water supply remains safe and school operations at Rossiter will proceed as normal.
Moving forward, the district continues to work closely with the Montana DEQ on a sustainable contingency plan and to perform further necessary testing.
The district is currently awaiting final environmental testing results for Jim Darcy.
