At a special meeting Sunday evening, Helena Public Schools announced it would close for two weeks following an order from Governor Steve Bullock.
Bullock ordered all public K-12 schools to close for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16th.
HPS will keep campuses open for students and parents on Monday and Tuesday so they can retrieve personal belongings, books and medication.
No teachers will be available, and no classes will be held.
Schools will also provide regular hot meal service on Monday and Tuesday for breakfast and lunch. At the meeting, school leaders said they could use buses to deliver meals.
Regional school meal pickup sites are expected to be in place by Wednesday and a remote/virtual learning platform should be available Thursday.
HPS reminds parents that Spring Break is still scheduled to begin March 30th. That means the earliest day school could transition back to in-person classes is Monday, April 6th.
Superintendent Tyler Ream said at the meeting that there are currently no known Helena teachers or students who have contracted COVID-19.
