There were 293 new cases and 10 new deaths added to the total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking site on Saturday morning. Both figures are the most reported in one day in Montana. The data below is from the official Montana website on September 19:
- TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 10,163 cumulative cases statewide, with 7,553 people recovered.
- HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are 104 patients hospitalized, and a total of 567 hospitalizations since the pandemic began.
- ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 2,454 active cases in Montana.
- DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Montana is 156, an increase of ten since yesterday.
- TESTING: The number of new tests is 2,285; the cumulative total of tests since March is now 300,840.
Governor Steve Bullock issued the following statement on Saturday morning: “Over 150 deaths due to COVID-19 is a milestone we prayed we would not reach, and this virus continues to present difficult challenges in communities of our state. While Montanans are known for our independent spirit, we are capable of unified action towards a common goal – and it is through that community-mindedness that we can keep moving forward, save lives, and overcome COVID-19.”
Numbers reported by the state each day occasionally differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. CASCADE COUNTY: Cascade County has reported a cumulative total of 522 cases, an increase of 22 from yesterday. Of those, 254 are listed as recovered, 263 are currently listed as active, and five people have died.

Alluvion Health in Great Falls is continuing to offer drive-through COVID-19 testing at Montana ExpoPark. The entrance is along 3rd Street NW. It is located in the Family Living Center until October 1st. The testing is open to anyone - asymptomatic, symptomatic, high risk, and direct contacts. GLACIER COUNTY: Blackfeet Covid-19 Incident Command said on Thursday evening that public health officials have identified the Babb/St. Mary communities as a COVID-19 outbreak area. All residents of these communities have been placed under a mandatory 14 day quarantine, excluding essential employees, effective immediately. As of Saturday, Glacier County has reported a cumulative total of 176 cases. Of those, 144 are listed as recovered, 31 are currently listed as active, and one person has died.
The quarantine and isolation orders under Ordinance 121 are in full effect and will be enforced. All residents are asked to please follow the quarantine/isolation orders to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. CDC: The federal Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) released data in late August which emphasizes that people with contributing or underlying medical conditions are at much greater risk of dying from COVID-19. According to the CDC, an estimated 94% of all COVID-related deaths in the nation were people who had contributing medical conditions and diseases.
The CDC report states: "For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death." The report states that the most common underlying medical conditions that contributed to COVID-related deaths include respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, asthma, COPD, and influenza; diabetes; hyptertensive diseases; and heart disease.
