Applestem Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is ready for its 14th season.

The popular fall venue opened this weekend after a few weather delays with a late August frost and early September rain.

This year’s theme, the battle of the flattop, is a nod at the U.S. Senate race between Jon Tester and Matt Rosendale.

The venue completed its goat palace, which is a part of the petting zoo, and added another slide to slide mountain in preparation for this fall season. Popular attractions such barnyard bingo and the duck races returned.

Despite celebrating another season, Applestem almost did not open after the venue flooded in June.

“We took kind of a hit this spring in June. When Augusta flooded, we flooded as well,” Co-owner Loni Blackman said. “This entire courtyard and the field was underwater and for a while we didn’t think we were gonna have corn.”

Blackman advised visitors to come early in the season before weather elements start to affect the corn.

Applestem is open Fridays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. until October 28.

Upcoming events include military appreciation weekend on September 29-30, battle of the flattop weekend on October 6-7, and first responders weekend on October 13-14.

Applestem Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is located at 283 U.S. Highway 89 in Vaughn.
