Yellowstone National Park officials reported the number of people who visited in August dropped 11 percent compared to one year ago.

Over the year, visitation is down three percent, but the park has still registered more than 3.1 million visits for the season to date. That’s about 100,000 visitors less than last year at this time.

Park officials said in spite of the slight drop, the park is still very busy and people who want to visit need to plan ahead.

It is especially important to check and reserve hotel rooms or camping in and around the park ahead of time.

Since the fall season is now underway, officials said to be sure to check the park website for weather and road conditions before you visit because both can change quickly at this time.
