Helena Food Share asking for fresh food donations

Posted

HELENA – Harvest season has started and Helena Food Share is asking for fresh food donations.

If you have extra food in your garden, you are welcome to donate it to Helena Food Share.

Helena Food Share asks that you wash it and bundle it before dropping it off.

Helena Food Share receives most of their produce from farmer’s market vendors and community gardens.

This year, Helena Food Share received 1,300 pounds from community gardens, and is working on a future project to preserve food for the winter season.

“There’s an opportunity to give, to share, with your neighbors in need. Share fresh produce in your garden, and just bring it to Helena Food Share. We can put it to good use. If you’re in that position, if you don’t have access to a lot of good, fresh quality food, you can come to Helena Food Share," Bruce Day, the executive director of Helena Food Share, said.

You can harvest for Helena Food Share at the 6th Ward Garden this Saturday, August 25, from 9 a.m. until noon.

The 6th Ward Garden donated fresh mint, garlic, buffalo berries, and Crandall currents. It is the first year the 6th Ward was able to donate to Helena Food Share.

Helena Food Share is located at 1616 Lewis Street. You can learn more by visiting their website.
