Corne accused of trying to buy truck with stolen money

Taylor Renee Corne of Helena is accused of trying to buy a truck with checks stolen from a mailbox.

Corne appeared via video in Lewis & Clark County Justice Court on Monday.

According to court documents, Corne attempted to buy a truck from a man with a check made out for more than $3,900.

Police say the seller became suspicious when he searched Corne’s name on the internet and saw her mug shot from an unrelated case.

The seller contacted police to investigate. Police say they contacted name associated with the account on the check.  He reportedly told authorities that someone had taken mail from his mailbox sometime between May 7th and May 11th.

The victim says he learned of the theft when his credit card company alerted him to suspicious activity in the Helena area.

Court records say the check used to purchase the truck was blank credit card check mailed with a statement.

Police also say when they went to arrest Corne she tried to run away.

She has been charged with forgery, a felony, and possession of stolen property.
