A fire destroyed a family’s home east of Helena on Tuesday.
The Tri-Lakes Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a fire on Kraut Lane just after noon.
Firefighters said when they arrived at the scene, the fire had already consumed half of the home.
No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Investigators suspect the fire started in the east-facing front room; that was the hottest area in the building when they arrived.
“It is a trailer house. They’re made mostly of wood, and there’s very little fire barriers in them regarding sheetrock, and stuff goes, so it’s tough to get a fire out in them. A lot of is standing, it hasn’t collapsed or anything else, but the inside is pretty bad. It’s a family’s worst nightmare,” said Bob Drake, Tri-Lakes Volunteer Fire Department Chief.
Firefighters spent about two hours putting out the fire.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
There is no word yet on the dollar amount of damage.
