A crash north of Helena on Thursday caused quite a bit of damage, but fortunately there were no serious injuries.
The crash happened at 7:45 a.m. a few miles north of Helena when a northbound truck rear-ended a semi hauling a pup trailer.
The force of the crash sheared off the right front tire of the truck, flattened a tire on the pup, and trapped the driver inside.
Although the driver was uninjured, it took two Montana Highway Patrol troopers to pry him out of the rig.
Troopers said that the driver was apparently distracted just before the crash.
“This is a very severe crash, and luckily nobody got hurt. If he had had a passenger in the cab of the box truck, it would have been a lot worse today. Pay attention while you are driving, don’t let cell phones, paperwork, or food distract you. Pay attention to the road and what you’re doing,” said Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Branden Uhl.
The crash limited traffic on I-15 to one lane while the two trucks were prepared to be towed.
We do not know if the driver has been cited for the crash; we will update you if we find out.
