SOUTHEAST OF GREAT FALLS —  Two young boys died after falling into a small pond just east of Sand Coulee.

Emergency crews were called to the Pleasant Valley Colony near McCoy Road at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

A group of three young boys — between the ages of four and five years — went through a fence and were playing on a frozen sewage holding pond.

According to Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards, the children came across a very thin spot of ice which gave way, and they fell into the water.

Some other children witnessed the event and ran to the housing area of the colony to get help.

A man from the colony ran down to the pond, where all three were still in the water.

He pulled one child out who was crying and screaming.

That boy was driven to Benefis hospital in Great Falls in a private vehicle.

The other two boys were unresponsive and given advanced life support as they were taken by ambulance to Benefis.

Sheriff Edwards tells us two of the boys died, and the third child is in intensive care.

The names of the boys has not been released.

We will update you as we get more information.
