Sometimes a simple note is all it takes to reach out to a stranger. During these uncertain times, one Helena family is using handwritten door hangings to connect with their neighbors.

This week, they decided to make door tags for their neighbors, to ask how they can help while people are cooped up at home.
They offered to bring food or pick up medicine and left a spot on the back where people could respond.
Though only one family has requested specific help so far, the Boumas say they have received lots of responses and made new friends.
“We had several wonderful notes on the back saying, ‘We're okay right now, but we'll keep your number, and you restored our faith in the community,’” said Scott. "Actually, it was fulfilling for me, honestly. And then after that, Amy was like, no one needed help, we need to do another street!”
Amy, who's in middle school, has even created a system to reach as many of her neighbors as possible.
“I decided to keep going until someone needs our help, and then we'll help them and see what they need,” said Amy.
So far, they have passed out around 40 door hangings.
The Boumas are encouraging others to find ways to connect with their neighbors, too. They recommend using gloves to place the hangings to protect yourself and others.
