Where were the animals last year? That’s the question Fish, Wildlife and Parks has been asking as they prepare for this year’s hunting season.

FWP’s Morgan Jacobsen told MTN’s Chet Layman in This Week in Fish & Wildlife that last year’s cold spring did have an impact on calf and fawn numbers in some areas.
Jacobsen says FWP uses that information to determine where elk and deer might be easier to find. The Hunt Forecast looks at several factors including hunting success, populations and calf and fawn numbers to come up with information on areas where elk and deer might be more likely to be found.
Jacobsen also says all of that data is compiled and then made available through FWP’s website, fwp.mt.gov.
