This week’s One Class at a Time recipient is Ashlee Mihelish of Jim Darcy Elementary School.

Mihelish is working to help her kindergarten students develop critical social and emotional skills.

Bruce Haswell of First Interstate Bank was joined by KXLH to surprise Mihelish and her class at Jim Darcy Elementary School with a $250 check.

Mihelish said kindergarteners love games and over the years that love has left her games broken or missing pieces.

The money from the grant will be used to buy board games and other group-play toys for the students.

Mihelish believes play is one of the most powerful learning experiences for young children.

“We develop so many skills through play, both social and emotional,” said Mihelish, “So I’m just so excited about this thank you.”

Mihelish would also like to thank everyone involved in One Class at a Time for the opportunity the grant offers.

For more than a decade, First Interstate Bank and MTN have partnered for the One Class at a Time grant.

The mission of the grant is to foster educational opportunities for local teachers and students.

A panel of retired teachers and school officials select the grant recipients from a pool of submitted applications.
