Springfield Township, OH (WLWT ) — A grandmother called 911 after she found out a bullet had come into her apartment from the unit next door.
Police said the incident happened Sunday on Meredith Drive in Springfield Township.
No one was hurt, but investigators said a neighbor’s son and his friends were playing with a gun.
Springfield Township police said prosecutors now have control of the case and it’s not clear yet if charges will be filed.
Investigators said an accidental gunshot sent a bullet from the upstairs bedroom of one apartment into another at a building on Meredith Drive.
“My grandson told me. He said, ‘Grandma, look! There’s a hole in your bedpost,’ and then when I got up and looked, it looked like it was a bullet was shot from the next door into my unit,” a grandmother said to 911 dispatchers.
According to a police report WLWT obtained, a neighbor’s son and his two friends were playing with a 9 mm gun when it went off.
Investigators said the neighbor’s son and his friends were taking pictures with the gun when the trigger was pulled and it fired.
Police said the neighbor’s son told them he didn’t know it was loaded.
Meanwhile, the grandma in the next unit told dispatchers her grandson, who was in bed, and her daughter, who was also in the apartment, heard a loud noise.
“It came right through her wall, through my bedpost, hit my pillow, because my pillow was up against the bed, hit the pillow, and there’s stuff all over the floor,” the grandmother said.
Police said they searched the upstairs bedroom of the unit where the gunfire started and found a bullet hole in the wall.
They also said they found a 9 mm handgun in a closet.
They also collected the bullet from inside a pillow in the grandmother’s unit.
It was a close call that could have been deadly.
We were unable to get in touch with the families from either of the apartments.
WLWT checked with Hamilton County Juvenile Court officials who were unable to find any charges in the case.
We also checked in with the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, where a spokeswoman said she would look into the case and return our call as soon as possible.
