TULSA, OK (KJRH) — The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma says it has donated more than 140,000 pounds of food to families affected by recent flooding, and that number will continue to go up.
“Now we’re starting to get requests from a lot of our existing partner programs who are seeing folks coming back into their homes and needing food assistance as they try to dig out from this mess,” says Executive Director Eileen Bradshaw.
Food bank officials report they have helped Muskogee, Nowata, Sequoyah and Tulsa counties. One way they have assisted are by pop-up mobile food pantries where they hand out food kits. Another way is the ongoing partnership with first response organizations, such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
This week they will also be distributing food items to Ottawa, Osage, Mayes, Wagoner and Craig counties.
Officials say they’re especially in need of canned protein, peanut butter, boxed meals, canned fruit, grain items and canned entrees.
2 Works for You has partnered with the food bank to give back to the community and help storm survivors. We will be holding a flood relief drive this upcoming Friday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Any non-perishable food items are welcome.
