The City of Helena is helping people better find short term parking downtown with new signs. City Staff have put up pink signs to indicate where free one hour parking is located in otherwise pay locations.
“The feedback that we were receiving from our business partners were that people weren’t able to find those 1-hour-free spots out there,” said Rebecca Connors, City of Helena public information officer. “So we took the color pink to help indicate where those spots were and help them stand out better.”
Signs are going up at the 6th Ave. and Getchell St. parking garages, the Jackson Street lot between Cruise Ave. and Broadway, the Lawrence St. lot by the Holter Museum and the Park Avenue lot by Reeder’s Alley.
“It’s really nice that we have this first hour free, because there are a lot of shops were you just need to run in and grab something quickly,” said Connors. “The first hour free is really convenient when you have those quick errands.”
People still need to enter their vehicle into the City’s parking system to avoid a ticket.
There is a 15 cent surcharge when using the mobile app that goes to the developer, but people can avoid that fee by visiting a kiosk.
