We received confirmation from both Animal Control and the Humane Society that both dogs were microchipped and have been reunited with their owner.

(UPDATE) Officials say the dog rescued is showing signs of hypothermia and has been taken to a vet to be checked out.

According to Animal Control, a second dog was captured in the area.

They are currently searching for the owner/s.

Lewis & Clark County Search and Rescue says ice is extremely dangerous right now and people are urged to stay off it.

(1st Report, 1 p.m.) A dog was rescued after it fell through the ice on Lake Helena on Friday.

It happened at about 11:30 a.m. The dog appears to be a large black lab. He fell through the ice several dozen yards from the shore.

Animal Control and Fish, Wildlife and Parks were among the first responders to arrive.

Lewis & Clark County Search and Rescue was called in to assist with the rescue.

MTN was told that the ice is too thin to attempt a sled rescue without a drysuit.

Once crews were suited up and out on the ice they were able to pull the dog to safety just before 1 p.m.

There is no word yet on whether the dog has a family.
