BUTTE - A major economic development project was announced Monday in the conference hall of the Butte Brewing Company.

The founders of National Center for Healthcare Informatics, Pat Dudley and Ray Rogers, plan to open the Praxis Center for Innovative Learning. It's a $35 million project which will involve training for medical as well as military and rural hospitals.

“We’ll also have a fairly large, what we call, mixed reality simulation training room. This is a 10,000-square-foot, open-span room with 40-foot ceilings, where we will be able to do large mock-up training scenarios for the U.S. military and for EMTs and first responders. It’s going to be designed to look just like a hospital. It’ll be a mock hospital, we’ll have emergency rooms, ICU rooms, an operating room, nursing rooms. We’ll have obstetrics, gynecology, a delivery room,” said NCHI Co-founder Ray Rogers.

The planned 82,000-square-foot facility will be located at the corner of Park and Arizona streets in Uptown Butte.

“It’s going to be built here in Uptown Butte because Ray and I have been adamant about it being in Uptown Butte. If this dream was going to come to fruition, it was going to be built here,” said co-founder Pat Dudley.

Rogers said Butte’s Markovich Construction will begin constructing the facility next year and they hope to have it open by 2020. The facility could bring up to 70 high-paying jobs to the community and could see 3,000 people per year coming to Butte for training at the facility.
