Vehicle crashes into home in north Helena valley

A vehicle slammed into a residence in the north Helena Valley on Monday injuring the driver.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a woman driving a Ford pickup clipped the back of an Avalanche truck making a right turn around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Hope Road and Applegate Drive.

The Ford swerved across large rocks leading to the lawn of a home, hit a wishing well in the yard, and then crashed into the home.

The woman driving the Ford was injured and transported to St. Peter's Health; the nature and extent of her injuries was not released.

The home was significantly damaged.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David Gleich said the crash was a reminder to take precautions while driving on wintry roads.

"You really need to take three times as much distance to stop as you'd normally use on bare and dry roads and that's a minimum," he said. "It's easy to let your foot off the gas to come closer, coasting to a stop than trying to hit the brakes."

Trooper Gleich said the investigation is ongoing and no known charges have been filed at this time.
