The Lewis and Clark Humane Society received a surprise $3,000 grant from Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation.

The grant was given to one shelter in each state that stood out for the work they do.

The money will help provide care for the animals at the shelter as well as support shelter programs.

Humane Society Development Director Kelsee Dalton said the grant was a big surprise to the organization.

“It’s really cool to know that our shelter in a small town in rural Montana was able to get that kind of attention,” Dalton said.

She added that monetary donations are always the best way to support the shelter but they also need volunteers to help clean cages and walk and play with the animals.

The Humane Society will host its 17th annual Spay-ghetti Dinner at the end of March at the Civic Center. Tickets are currently available at the Humane Society.

Every animal shown in this story was available for adoption at the shelter as of February 28, 2018.
