Leland Collier Bennett has been charged with three felonies after he allegedly threatened Sheriff's deputies with a knife.

Court documents state that on Sunday night (January 28), the officers were sent to the Silver Dollar Casino in Vaughn where a woman said that Bennett had been "aggressive" with her.

The deputies found Bennett in the parking lot next to the casino, and as they approached him, they noted that he was facing them with his left hand in his pocket and a knife in his right hand.

According to court documents, Bennett refused to drop the knife and said words to the effect of, "I want a stand-off, go ahead and taze me." The deputies explained that they only wanted to talk with him about the situation inside the casino.

Bennett again refused to drop the knife, and said words to the effect of, "I have to take care of you since you have a Taser."

At that point, Bennet reportedly began walking toward the deputies, still wielding the knife, and the officers deployed their Tasers, which had no effect on Bennett. The deputies deployed a second Taser cartridge, again with no effect. The deputies then drew their guns and ordered Bennett to drop the knife, and he finally did.

Court documents state that after being placed in restraints and into the patrol car, Bennett began to kick the driver's-side rear door with enough force that it appeared about to break.

Deputies then placed leg restraints on Bennett, and noted that the door had been bent as a result of being kicked, and the door no longer sealed completely. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at more than $1,500.

Bennett has been charged with three felonies: two counts of assault on a peace officer, and one count of criminal mischief. He is also charged with two misdemeanors: partner/family member assault, and obstructing a peace officer.

Court documents note that Bennett has criminal convictions in Montana and Washington on charges of theft, criminal mischief, possession of dangerous drugs, obstructing a peace officer, partner/family member assault, assault, and DUI.

Prosecutors requested that bond for Bennett be set at $25,000.
