Skier dies after crashing into tree at Big Sky Resort

(BOZEMAN) A 37-year-old man died after crashing into a tree while skiing on Thursday at Big Sky Resort.
Matthew Jay Montag of Washington, D.C., was skiing on Elkhorn Run at Big Sky south of Bozeman on Thursday afternoon when he struck the tree, according to the Big Sky Fire Department, which sent paramedics to the scene.
Montag was found by fellow skiers who performed CPR until Big Sky Resort Ski Patrol arrived on scene.
Members of ski patrol took over life-saving measures and moved Montag to a helicopter landing zone.
Montag was later determined to be deceased and pronounced by a physician.
Big Sky Resort released released the following statement: “Big Sky Resort is deeply saddened by the death on our mountain yesterday afternoon. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the guest’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
