Two men who were fighting over a handgun were injured when it discharged, according to the Lewistown News-Argus.
On Friday, January 12, Central Montana Dispatch received a 911 call saying that two people had been shot at a residence on Meadowlark Lane, just east of Lewistown.
The caller said that that one person had been shot in the hand, and one person had been shot in the leg.
Fergus County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, along with officers from the Lewistown Police Department, and Lewistown Ambulance Service.
The initial investigation indicates there was a domestic dispute at the residence and the two men were fighting over a handgun.
The handgun discharged, striking both individuals.
Both men were taken to Central Montana Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, which were not life-threatening.
At this point, one person has been charged with partner/family member assault; we do not yet know the name of the person.
The incident is still being investigated by the Fergus County Sheriff’s Office, and additional charges could be filed.
