BOZEMAN - A Bozeman man appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court Tuesday on felony drug charges following his arrest on Monday.

Around 5:50 a.m. Monday, two officers initiated a traffic stop when they encountered a car parked in the middle of the northbound lane of Thorpe Road. Joseph Tyler Lamere, 30, was allegedly unconscious in the driver’s seat of a gold Cadillac DeVille near the intersection of Thorpe and Richman Road.

According to charging documents, officers approached the car and saw Lamere unconscious with his pants around his ankles. They also observed through the window an unopened can of beer and an open can of Twisted Tea. The reporting officer opened the driver’s door, which startled Lamere awake.

Lamere identified himself, and officers conducted a field sobriety test based on his initial unconscious state and the odor of alcohol coming from the car.

In the course of the sobriety test, one of the officers observed what appeared to be marijuana and a pipe on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Lamere agreed to a vehicle search, and officers discovered two bags that contained a scale, 54.2 grams of individually-packaged marijuana, a bag of suspected methamphetamine, $298 in cash, and empty plastic baggies.

Officers arrested Lamere and transported him to the Gallatin County Detention Center. At the Detention Center, officers found in Lamere’s pants pocket a bag containing 1.5 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Lamere is charged with possession of dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute. Judge Robert Quinn set his bond at $2,500 with Level 1 testing for drugs and alcohol.

His preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 26.
