Story Highlights

  • A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Friday
  • Snow is expected to cause widespread travel trouble
  • Frigid air will settle into Montana for the weekend

More snow on the way

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of central Montana through Friday.

It means wintry weather is expected to disrupt travel and make driving difficult at times.

STORMTracker meteorologist Mike Rawlins says snow will develop Thursday evening from north to south as a cold front moves out of Canada.

Light-moderate snow is expected through Friday morning with the snow tapering off late Friday.

3-5" of snow is expected across central Montana with 5-12" of snow falling in the mountains.

Frigid air arrives

Very cold air will move into Big Sky Country just in time for Christmas.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Friday as north winds drive in that colder air.

By Saturday morning, most cities will drop below zero with wind chills nearing -20°.

Highs are expected to range from the single digits above zero to the upper teens through Christmas Day.
