Butte woman likely died from exposure

Butte police say a 34-year-old woman who was reported missing on Tuesday evening has been found dead.

The woman's body was found Wednesday in a rural area southwest of town.

Search and rescue personnel found the body east of Little Basin Creek Road at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Investigators suspect that she died from hypothermia.

Police are withholding her name until family members are notified.

(1st Report) A 34-year-old Butte woman was reported missing in the area of Little Basin Creek just southwest of Butte about 1:30 Wednesday morning.

Police and about 25 members of the I-15/90 Search and Rescue team spent the morning searching for the missing woman in that area.

Butte Undersheriff George Skuletich confirmed search and rescue found the missing woman about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday and an ambulance crew was sent to the Little Basin Creek area.

The condition of the woman is unknown, Skuletich said.

Police said the woman left the family home on Elkhorn Lane about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Relatives looked for the woman, and contacted police early Wednesday morning.
