(BILLINGS ) Walter Franklin Williamson of Lewistown has been identified as the man who died in a rollover crash on U.S. Highway 87 between Billings and Roundup on Tuesday morning.
The Yellowstone County Coroner said on Tuesday that Williamson was 76 years old. .
Trooper Kristy Kees with the Montana Highway Patrol said that Williamson was driving south when his Chevrolet van drifted off the right side of the road.
Kees said when Williamson tried to steer the van back onto the road, he over-corrected and veered off the left side of the road, causing the van to roll.
Williams died at the scene.
Other drivers began reporting the crash at 6:46 a.m. at mile marker 20.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash; Kees noted that it appears Williamson was not wearing a seat belt.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Williamson was the van’s only occupant.
